Softball: Panthers split USA South doubleheader with Covenant

LaGrange and Covenant split a USA South doubleheader Wednesday at the LC Softball Complex. The Panthers (3-11, 2-4 USA South) blanked the Scots (9-5, 3-1 USA South) 4-0 in the first game before losing 6-1 in the second.

Chelsea Twardoski (3-4) and Emily Cauldwell combined to throw the first game shutout. Twardoski threw the first five innings, scattering six hits, walking one, and striking out two. Cauldwell finished the game to record her second save. She also threw three shutout innings in the second game, striking out six and walking none.

The Panthers did all of their scoring in the fourth and fifth innings. In the fourth, LC loaded the bases with two outs. Adrienne Little doubled to right center driving in Emily Barrs and Sydney Hodorff to make it 2-0.

Barrs finished the Panthers scoring in the fifth. With two outs and Amber Arnold on base, Barrs homered over the left center field fence for a 4-0 lead.

Covenant built a 6-0 lead in the second game off three LaGrange pitchers. Barrs averted the shutout in the sixth inning with a home run off the scoreboard. The two home runs on the day gave her five for the season.

The Panthers play a USA South doubleheader at Maryville on Saturday.
