LaGrange is picked third in the West Division in the USA South Athletic Conference's men's tennis coaches 2017 preseason polls. Each divisional preseason poll only includes votes from coaches within that particular division-only. Head coaches do not vote for their own teams in the balloting.
The Panthers, under coach Matt Donnett, were 5-8 overall and 3-7 in USA South matches in 2016. They return junior Mitchell Corley, who was a second team USA South All-Conference selection. Senior Drew Cantrell and sophomore John Mitchell Benton also return after tying for most matches won on the team.
Piedmont was chosen as the West Division leader. Placing second in the poll was Covenant followed by the Panthers. Huntingdon and Maryville finished the division rankings.
N.C. Wesleyan was picked to be the East Division favorite. The Bishops captured both the USA South regular season and tournament crowns last spring for the eighth consecutive season.
The men's tennis spring season gets underway during the weekend of February 4-5 as Greensboro and William Peace are in action.
The Panthers open their spring schedule Feb. 19 with a home match against Emory of Oxford.
The 2017 USA South Men's Tennis Tournament will be played April 13-15 in LaGrange as a part of the USA South Spring Sports Festival, hosted by the City of LaGrange and Troup County. Matches will take place at both the McCluskey Tennis Center and LaGrange College's varsity courts. The top-three teams from each division following regular season play will advance to the tournament.
