Men's Tennis: John Mitchell Benton earns ITA Scholar-Athlete award

The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) announced its 2016 Academic Awards on Thursday, July 21, 2016. More than 4,200 scholar-athletes were recognized across all divisions, along with over 700 all-academic teams.

Freshman John Mitchell Benton represented the LC men as a ITA Scholar-Athlete. Benson represented the Panthers on the men's tennis 2016 All-Sportsmanship team. He posted a 6-6 record at #3 singles, tying for the team lead in matches won.

In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status a player must meet the following criteria: 1.) be a varsity letter winner, 2.) have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year, and 3.) have been enrolled at their present school for at least 2 semesters (including freshman through senior year).
