Men's Soccer: Panthers prevail 4-3 in overtime over Pensacola Christian

PENSACOLA, Fla. - Jude McEvoy scored in the second overtime period to give LaGrange a 4-3 win over Pensacola Christian on Thursday night. The win upped the Panthers' record to 2-1. The Eagles, the defending NCCAA Division II national champions, remained winless at 0-3.

McEvoy had two goals on the night. He got the game's first score in the 12th minute. Matthew Fritts sent a crossing pass that McEvoy put in the back of the net for a 1-0 lead. 

Pensacola Christian controlled the game for the better part of the final 25 minutes of the first half. The Eagles had nine of their 10 shots in the half during the span with Cory Aycock making three saves for LC.

The Panthers took advantage of an Eagle turnover in the final minute of the half. Qua Tucker took the ball away, then scored off a breakaway with 50 seconds left in the half for a 2-0 lead.

The Eagles rallied, tying the game on two goals 21 minutes into the second half. The Panthers regained the lead in the 87th minute on Nick Huberty's first goal of the season off an assist from Andrew Vallabuena. The Eagles answered with the tying goal two minutes later to force overtime.

After a scoreless first overtime period, the Panthers got the game-winner with time winding down in the final overtime. McEvoy took Connor Liney's long throw in and beat the goalkeeper to the right side of the goal with 3:07 left for the 4-3 final.

The Panthers were playing their second straight overtime game, losing 2-1 to Guilford on Sunday.
