Men's Basketball: Panthers late rally comes up short against Huntingdon

LaGrange's late rally came up short in an 84-80 loss to Huntingdon in a USA South game Wednesday in Mariotti Gym. The Panthers slipped to 12-11 overall and 7-7 in conference play, while the Hawks improved to 9-14 and 3-11.

Alex Bonner led LC with 19 points, along with six rebounds and assists each. Bonner, along with Michael McCauley, Duncan Parker, and Nate Rosetti, was one of four seniors playing in their final home game. Coach Kendal Wallace talked about the seniors.

"I can't say enough about Alex. Although he does so much for us offensively, sometimes because he handles the ball too much he turns the ball over a little bit," said Wallace. "And that hurt us a little tonight. Nate wanted to get in there, he had such a good rebounding game against Pfeiffer, I thought we could get him in there and get some rebounds but it didn't work out. Duncan is always trying so hard and I can't complain about his leadership and his mentality about the game right now.

"Michael is someone that is dear to my heart. He has come from nothing, raised by his grandmother, and he's doing all his college on his own. He works hard every day and always has such a positive attitude. He's has my back all the time and I just cant say how much emotionally it is to go out on this last night here with our seniors and not pull a win out."

The Panthers trailed by 12, 73-61, with 4:32 left. Treys by Bonner and Holt Shannon made it a five point game, 80-75, with 38 seconds left. Travis Thompson's first 3-pointer of the season got LC within two, 82-80, with two seconds remaining. Huntingdon got a pair of free throws from Bryant Reid to clinch the win.

The Panthers close out the regular season with games at Berea and Maryville on Saturday and Sunday.
