Men's Basketball: Methodist pulls away late to top Panthers in USA South matchup

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - Methodist pulled away for a 75-63 win over LaGrange in a USA South game Saturday. 

Alex Bonner led the Panthers (10-9, 3-5 USA South) with a double-double of 16 points and 10 rebounds, while Ellijah Adedoyin added 15 points. Methodist (12-8, 6-3 USA South) got a game-high 21 points from Rae Hall.

The Panthers trailed by as much as 14 points in the first half and were down 35-24 at halftime. Jamison McCray's free throw got LC within one, 37-36, five minutes into the second half.

The Monarchs continued to hold the lead and were up 57-49 with 8:14 left. The Panthers put together a 10-0 run over the next two minutes to overtake the Monarchs.

Adedoyin's 3-pointer tied the game at 57. McCray made a steal, then hit a jumper to give the Panthers a short-lived 59-57 lead.

Methodist answered by finishing the game on an 18-4 run to take the win. The Panthers went almost four minutes without scoring before Bonner hit two free throws with 2:27 remaining.

The Panthers host Maryville and Piedmont next Saturday and Sunday in USA South games.
