Golf: Starr, Nelson pace Panthers after first round of Callaway Gardens Intercollegiate

PINE MOUNTAIN, Ga. - The LaGrange golf team is third after the first round on the Callaway Gardens Intercollegiate played Monday at the resort's Mountain View course.

The Panthers had a round of 3-over par 291. They are six shots back of first round leader Oglethorpe and just one shot back of USA South rival Methodist. Emory and third-ranked Huntingdon round out the top five.

Cameron Starr led LC with a 2-under par 70. He is tied for third in the individual standings. Jake Nelson is one shot back of Starr and tied for fifth. Sam Rogers and Rob Simpson both had 3-over par rounds of 75. Ben Womack had a 77 to round out the Panthers' scoring. Nathan Garner led three Panthers playing as individuals with a 2-over 74. Sam Hershoff had an 80 and Brett Ammons finished with an 86.

The tournament concludes Tuesday.
