Golf: Panthers surge to fourth place finish at Chick-fil-A Invitational

ROME, Ga. - The LaGrange golf team surged to a fourth place finish at the Chick-fil-A Invitational on Tuesday. It was the best finish for the Panthers, as they concluded the fall portion of their 2017-18 schedule.

The Panthers opened the tournament with a 313 total and were in 11th. They moved up four spots to seventh after a second round 294. In the final round, LC shot an even par 288 over the par 72 Stonebridge Golf Course. It was the second lowest round of the day.

Oglethorpe won the tournament, followed by N.C. Wesleyan, Truett-McConnell, and the Panthers.

Freshman Sam Rogers finished fourth in the individual standings. He opened with a 75, then came back with rounds of 69 and 71 for a 1-under par 215 total. Junior Brett Ammons had back to back rounds of 78 before shooting a final round 2-under par 70 for a 226 total. Ammons moved up 16 spots in the standings to 26th.

Freshman Ben Womack followed Rogers and Ammons with a 227 total. Womack rebounded from a first round 82 with rounds of 72 and 73 to tie for 27th. Rob Simpson (232) and Cameron Starr (236) rounded out the scoring for the Panthers.
