Seniors Logan Lanier and Osborn Theam are semifinalists for the 2017 Division III Jack Nicklaus National Player of the Year Award presented by Barbasol as announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America.
The Division III finalists will be announced May 16. Lanier was a finalist last year and one of 24 players nationwide selected to the All-Nicklaus team. Nicklaus Award recipients will be announced June 1 with the honor presented by Jack Nicklaus at a ceremony during the final round of the Memorial Tournament presented by Nationwide at Muirfield Village Golf Club.
In addition to receiving the Jack Nicklaus National Player of the Year Award, the recipient will compete in the Barbasol Shootout for an exemption into the PGA TOUR's Barbasol Championship, held July 20-23, at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at Grand National in Opelika, Alabama. The Barbasol Shootout will be held Saturday, June 3 at the storied Scioto Country Club in Columbus, Ohio - the same club where Jack Nicklaus first learned the game of golf as a young boy.
Lanier is ranked second in the Golfstat Division III player rankings. He was low medalist at the USA South Championship Tournament and a first team USA South All-Conference selection. Lanier leads the team and the conference with a 70.8 strokes per round average. In nine tournaments this season, he has eight top five finishes. Lanier also tied for first at the Royal Lakes/Oglethorpe Fall Invitational.
Theam is ranked 16th in the Golfstat rankings. He was a USA South All-Conference second team selection. Theam has a 73.1 strokes per round average, which is fifth in the conference. Theam has three top five finishes and won the Chick-fil-A Collegiate Invitational, where he shot a career low round of 65.
