ROCHESTER, N.Y. - Led by junior Logan Lanier, the LaGrange golf team is 10th after the second round of the 2016 NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championships.
The Panthers had a team score of 305 over the par-72 Midvale Country Club course for a tournament total of 609. The 41-team field was cut to 15 for the final two rounds, assuring the Panthers their third straight top-15 finish in the tournament.
"All in all we played better today over a course that is tougher than the one we played Tuesday," said Coach Lee Richter. "We didn't set the course on fire but I hope we can all get clicking and finish high."
Lanier had the team's shot of the day on the final one of the round. On the par-3 18th hole, he holed out from the bunker beside the green for a birdie and a round of even par 72. Lanier is tied for second in the individual standings with a 144 total, just one shot back of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps' Keethan Reedy.
Osborn Theam had a 76, followed by Alex Ball (78), Anthony Scolapio (79), and Eric Havixbeck (86). In addition to Lanier's shot on 18, Scolapio nearly holed out from the fairway on the par-4 8th hole. His second shot stopped inches short of the cup for a tap in birdie.
The Panthers begin play at 8:50 teeing off at the 10th hole. The final two rounds will be played at the Midvale Country Club.
