Golf: Panthers receive at-large bid to 2016 NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championships

The LaGrange golf team received an at-large bid to the 2016 NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championships as announced by the Division III Men's Golf Committee. The championships, which will be held May 10-13 at Midvale Country Club and Mendon Golf Club, in Rochester, New York, will be hosted by St. John Fisher College and the Monroe County Sports Commission.

The Panthers are making their third straight trip to the national tournament, and eighth overall under long-time head coach Lee Richter. Richter led the team to a runner-up finish at the 2015 tournament, the highest ever by a LaGrange athletic team in a NCAA championship tournament.

During the 2015-16 season, the Panthers used a final-round comeback to win the Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational and posted top-five finishes in four other tournaments. The Panthers are one of three USA South teams in the tournament, joined by 11-time and defending national champion Methodist and Huntingdon.

A total of 210 participants will compete at the 2016 championships. Thirty-three conferences were awarded an automatic qualification for the championships. Two teams were selected from Pool B, which consists of independent institutions and institutions that are members of conferences that do not meet the requirements for automatic qualification. The final six berths, including LC's bid, were reserved for Pool C, which are institutions from automatic-qualifying conferences that are not the conference champion and any remaining Pool B teams. The top five individuals are selected from the remaining players who have not qualified with a team.
