Golf: Panthers tied for fifth after first round of USA South Championship

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - The LaGrange golf team is tied for fifth after the first round of the USA South Championship on Friday at the Benvenue Country Club.

The two-time defending champion Panthers had a team score of 317. They are just two strokes back of third place Greensboro. Methodist is the first round leader, 14 shots ahead of Huntingdon.

Logan Lanier led the Panthers with a 4-over par 76. He is tied for sixth in the individual standings. Eric Havixbeck followed Lanier with a 78 and is tied for 13th. Anthony Scolapio (80), Osborn Theam (83), and Alex Ball (88) rounded out the scoring for the Panthers.

The tournament continues Saturday and concludes Sunday.
