Golf: Lanier tied for first at Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitaional, Panthers third heading into final round

JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga. - Logan Lanier is tied for first in the individual standings, while the LaGrange golf team is third after Saturday's second round of the Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational being played at the Pine Lakes Golf Club.

Lanier fired a 5-under par 67 for his best collegiate round. He is tied with Ferrum's Brandon Bailey with a two-day total of 136. Bailey had a 66 on Saturday. Lanier had seven birdies and two bogeys on the day.

The Panthers had a team total of 1-over par 289 and are at 575 for the tournament. They are one shot back of second place Christopher Newport and five shots behind the leader, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.

Sophomore Eric Havixbeck had a 1-under par 71. He moved up 35 places in the standings and is tied for 59th with a 148 total. Anthony Scolapio had a 75 (147), followed by Alex Ball 75 (150) and Osborn Theam 79 (150).

The tournament ends Sunday.
