The LaGrange football team hosted Middle Georgia State in a scrimmage Tuesday at Callaway Stadium. The Panther offense produced four touchdowns, while the defense held the visiting Knights sccoreless.
Junior receiver Marcus Campbell completed a 31-yard run in the first quarter by going the final 25 yards after recovering a fumble on the play. On the final play of the first half, Campbell and senior quarterback Connor Blair hooked up on a 18-yard pass play for the second touchdown.
The Panthers drove the ball 75 yards to open the second half. Senior running back Nicholas Searcy ripped off runs of 25 and 19 yards to get the Panthers deep in the Knights' half of the field. Freshman receiver Kendrick Johnson made a leaping catch of a Blair pass on fourth down for a 25-yard gain to the 4-yard line. On the next play, sophomore Tyriano Greene ran into the end zone to cap the drive.
Freshman defensive back Andrew Brown ended a Middle Georgia threat with an interception in the thid quarter. The Knights got inside the Panthers' 30-yard line once during the scrimmage.
The Panthers ended the scoring in the fourth quarter with a quick two-play 75-yard drive. Blair found sophomore tight end Guy Wegienka over the middle for a 35-yard gain to the Knights' 40. Freshman running back Brandon Snowball broke a couple of tackles at the line of scrimmage, then broke into the open to complete the 40-yard run for the final touchdown of the scrimmage.
The Panthers will continue to prepare for their 2017 opener against Birmingham-Southern on Sept. 2 in Callaway Stadium.
