Football: N.C. Wesleyan uses big second half to down Panthers in USA South game

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - N.C. Wesleyan used a big second half to down LaGrange 49-23 on Saturday in a USA South game.

The Panthers are now 3-6 overall and 1-5 in the USA South. The Bishops evened their record at 4-4 and improved to 3-2 in conference play.

LC led 23-21 at halftime as Connor Blair had touchdown passes of 30 yards to Marsalis Jackson and 28 yards to Kiontai Button. The Panthers also got a defensive touchdown as Rodney Simon returned a fumble 18 yards for a score.

With the two TD passes, Blair has 31 for the season. He needs one more to tie Graham Craig's record of 32 set in 2013. Blair threw for 297 yards in the game. He heads into next week's against Methodist needing 312 passing yards to break Craig's mark of 3,576.

Wesleyan scored two third quarter touchdowns to go up 35-23. The Bishops put the game out of reach in the fourth quarter with two touchdowns in 10 seconds for the 49-23 final.

The Panthers will celebrate Senior Day against Methodist on Saturday at 1 p.m.
