Baseball: Blake Butcher named USA South Baseball Player of the Year

Junior third baseman Blake Butcher has been selected as the USA South Baseball Player of the Year. Butcher is the first LaGrange player to receive the award. 

Butcher, a Watkinsville, Ga. native, currently leads the USA South conference in several offensive categories, including batting average (.420), slugging percentage (.707), hits (66), doubles (18), total bases (111), and RBIs (42). He also ranks in the top-five of the conference in home runs (7), triples (3), at bats (157), plate appearances and sacrifice flies (4). In USA South games only, Butcher led the conference in slugging percentage, RBIs, extra base hits, and total bases. He was also All-Conference first team at third base.

Butcher has started all 38 games at third base for the Panthers. He ranks in the top 5 on the team in 19 offensive categories. Butcher has a team-leading 21 multiple hit games, that includes a team season high five hits against Maryville on April 8. He also is the team leader with 11 multiple RBI games. Butcher currently leads NCAA Division III in hits and is second in doubles.
