Baseball: Panthers fall to third-ranked Birmingham-Southern in non-conference game

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Third-ranked Birmingham-Southern downed LaGrange 8-1 in a non-conference game Tuesday night at Stripling Field.

The Panthers (13-10) saw their three-game winning streak end. Birmingham-Southern upped its record to 16-3.

The Panthers had only two hits in the game. Casey Bell had a run-scoring double accounting for the Panthers' only run in the third and James Maxwell had a pinch-hit single in the ninth.

Austin Brown started and took the loss for the Panthers. Brown allowed three runs, only two earned, and eight hits in four innings. He was followed by Josh Smith, Jonathan Fleckenstein, and Austin Perez.

The Panthers play Averett in a USA South series starting with a doubleheader Saturday. The two teams will play a single game Sunday.
