Baseball: No. 22 Berry tops Panthers in non-conference game Monday

THOMASVILLE, Ga. - No. 22 Berry used a six-run fourth inning and went on to defeat LaGrange 15-5 in a non-conference game Monday. The game was played at Thomas University's Varnedor Stadium.

The Panthers (10-9) had 12 hits in the game. Tavin Thompson had three hits, including two doubles, and scored a run. Casey Bell, Blake Butcher, and Blane Swift each had two hits.

The Panthers led 4-1 after two innings. They got RBI singles from Butcher and Swift in the first to go up 2-0. In the second, the Panthers took advantage of a Viking error and a run-scoring single by Cain Sauls to build the three-run lead.

But Berry (14-4) answered with its big fourth inning to take a 7-4 lead. In the Panthers' half of the fourth, Joe Pradat beat out an infield hit and Thompson doubled to put runners at second and third. Pradat scored on Bell's hit to left but Thompson was thrown out at home.

The Vikings put the game out of reach with a run in the fifth, three more in the sixth, and closed out the scoring with a four-run seventh inning.

Zach Tatham started for the Panthers. He pitched into the fourth, allowing four runs. Josh Smith (0-1) took the loss, surrendering four runs, only two earned, in two innings.

The Panthers play a weekend USA South conference series at Huntingdon beginning Friday.
