Baseball: Four-run eighth helps Panthers complete sweep of Wabash

CARTERSVILLE, Ga. - A four-run eighth inning carried LaGrange to a 6-2 win over Wabash on Sunday at the Perfect Game LakePoint Complex.The Panthers' fifth straight win completed a three-game sweep of Wabash (0-3).

The Panthers (8-3) banged out 13 hits in the game. Chad Pigg was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate, while Cain Sauls had a double and a triple included in his three hits.

The game was tied 2-2 heading into the bottom of the eighth. Pigg led off the inning with a line drive to short. The play was originally called an out by the field umpire, but the home plate umpire overturned the call.

Pigg moved up to second on James Poropatic's sacrifice bunt, then over to third as Ty Edwards reached first. Keith Sims' bunt single up the first base line scored Pigg with the go-ahead run.

Edwards came home on Tavin Thompson's fly out, then Sims scored on a wild pitch to make it 5-2. Sauls capped the inning with a RBi triple to right field.

Jonathan Fleckenstein got the win with two innings of scoreless relief. Blake Schuck closed out the game with a perfect ninth inning.

Austin Brown started for the Panthers. He went six innings and allowed two runs, only one earned. Brown struck out seven and did not walk a batter.
